Like a plate of shrimp, Repo Man is an unexpectedly great picture that wears its skin like a glove and makes you want to swagger out of watching it, stoked on the slice of life you just shared. An inspiration for all the excellence squeezed out of a small(ish) budget, it reminds me why I work so hard at writing and learning craft - because real beauty comes out of the work of practicing an art, mastering its tools and techniques; it’s FUNNY too. I was nostalgic during and after, for my punk youth, for boredom and the vast, impossible inspirations of hazy Southern California days before the crowds and cellphone cameras and constant connection.
