Again, craftsmanship; Ford V Ferrari is solidly engineered and streamlined, maybe more reliably made than any contemporary model of Ford cars AND, it’s entertaining. The odd couple at its heart is excellent, Matt Damon as Carroll Shelby is sturdy and sadder than I’ve seen him, and it must have been a demanding role for Christian Bale who’s whipsawed back into scarecrow frame and OCCUPIES the beak nose and pinched-cantankerous good nature of the other protagonist, Ken Miles. The enthusiasm for this movie is interesting; not a great film it is greatly entertaining, solid and well-made and, like the cars in it that are built of metal and other strong stuff without computers, or software, anywhere in sight, maybe there’s nostalgia out there for things that JUST WORK.
