I LOVE THIS MOVIE! I've always loved this movie though I forgot how much; revisiting it last night reminded me and brought soaring feeling to my chest and swelling lump of emotion to my throat. What a beautiful movie in every respect. Stirring and romantic, noble and violent, peace-giving in war, triumphant in death. A truly chivalrous film that I learned today based on 'diversity guidance', Amazon literally would try to prevent being made. But NONE can keep BEAUTY down.
Further notes: There were many Christian/Catholic themes that I only half identified back in '95 that I love even more now. And the realization that Chivalry is a kindred of love and beautiful too. I'd almost forgotten what an extremely romantic movie Braveheart was! I was young enough, I wonder — was it formative? Does some of my own sense of romance descend from it? Finally, a memory came to me of middle school years, lying on the couch listening to the score to Braveheart on my Discman, dreaming life away.
Important detail: This was the author's first screenplay!
Memorable Quote: "FREEDOM" — Mel Gibson as William Wallace under public torture.
Best Scene: The whole battle of Stirling beginning with Wallace's rousing speech about being free men and all the way through glorious battle.
